…and, we’re back.

It’s becoming clear to me that 2021, not 2020, is the Year of Chaos for the Hubs and myself.

We were a week prior to our planned AWAY vacay, and chaos struck again.

I was returning home from a day at the office. I called the Hubs and let him know I was on my way; was it ok if we heated up leftovers for dinner? He had no problem with it.

I pulled into the parking lot, got out of the car and he whipped in beside me. He got out of his truck and said, “I need to go to the ER now.” I thought it was his kidney stones since they’re acting up again. “No, I’ve cut off my thumb.”

Nothing lights a fire under my butt faster than a statement like that one.

As he explains it, he and the table saw got into an argument. And no, he couldn’t find the missing piece.

His truck looked like a piece of evidence from a crime scene.

And yes, I took pictures and shared them with the family! Boredom can make you do crazy things, but I'm not going to share those with you.

4 hours in the ER that evening, visit with a specialist on Tuesday and surgery the next morning. By this time my mantra was “Just get on the plane on Saturday…”

That was just over 2 weeks ago. We managed to get on the plane that Saturday, and had a lovely week in San Diego. R and R was the objective and the mission was a success. It became clear a couple of days in how exhausted I was. We were sloths. Very little sightseeing, but we did go to the Carlsbad flower fields and the beach. I took LOTS of photos at the flower fields, and here's a sampling:

One of the spent fields

Not that you can tell, but each year they plant a field resembling the American flag

This is where we stayed; it's adjacent to the flower fields.

I am always fascinated by what grows where.

In the great news department, we found out that our granddaughter is having a girl! I learned while in a Teams meeting...of course. I had to contain my squeal until the staff meeting was over.

And yellow and pink are the nursery colors. Oh, the possibilities…

I ordered a bunch of onesies and some embroidery designs—nothing too fancy—again, baby spit, barf and snot.

And, she has a name! I won’t share it due to privacy concerns, but it is pretty. I have made the label and attached it to the backing; all that's left is to baste and quilt and bind. The thumb incident kept me from getting it quilted before we left, but it will be done in time for the shower.

Here’s hoping you don’t get into any arguments with your table saw or sewing machine. Go make!
