2026–let’s see what happens

As in will she get anything done?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! New Year's Day was the 33rd anniversary of my quilting life. Again, glass half-full girl here, hoping she can accomplish more than last year, and that 2026 is not the dumpster fire that was 2025.

NESTY - From last year’s hopeful list to this year’s: The Sierra log cabin quilt designed by Jennifer Sampou. This one will not leave me alone; I think of it constantly. Ergo…

WIP - That Girl Done Gone Plum Crazy—a project from the digitizing refresher class I had last year. The top is pieced, but I have to digitize the quilting design and test it first. This will be a table topper.

WIP - a baby quilt for our great-grandson due on my birthday. The top is completed and I need to pick out the backing and determine the quilting design.

UFO - Stitch & Bitch Sampler—again from last year’s list. It’s been almost 10 years, and I want it done.

UFO - Girl Gang Sampler—also from last year’s list, I’m hopeful that this quilt and the Plum Crazy quilt and Stitch & Bitch sampler will help me elevate my digitizing abilities.

NESTY - I Believe - this is a BOM designed by Lisa DeBee Schiller in 1997. I purchased blocks 1-9 at the Houston quilt show in 1997. I have spent the last 28 years searching for the remaining blocks, and at long last, bought them last month and decided I must start this quilt in 2026. No photo available...yet. Go ahead--try to find a photo of it on Google.

NESTY - Woodland Wander - this is a kit I purchased on sale right after we moved into our new home (it will be 3 years in April!) and it utilizes the mariner's compass rulers from Robin Ruth.

UFO - Pumpkin Pie - a quilt top that’s been waiting for an adjustment, borders and quilting. It was started in 2009 and made with the help of a lot of special friends. I love orange. From the Sweet Treats book by Sandy Bonsib (the quilt is on the table on the book cover).

UFO - Yellow Brick Road - the blocks are pieced. I started this quilt in 2003, and at that time it was intended for our middle son who was away at college. He ended up getting his high school graduation quilt after he graduated from college, so this one became the high school graduation quilt for our oldest granddaughter (way back in 2019). This is the granddaughter that is giving us our second great-grandchild ON MY BIRTHDAY. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to locate the blocks, and this one may be on the “for naught” list at the end of the year…but I'll be searching for them in the next couple of weeks.

NESTY - Quilt a Snowman - I purchased the Lori Holt book and a bunch of her fabrics specifically for this quilt about a year ago. I love snowmen, and even though it's big, I think it will look great in our foyer during the winter months.

NESTY - Antelope Canyon - I love this quilt and I’ve had the pattern quite awhile. I want to make one for myself, but the one I'm planning will probably be a gift for a special friend.

UFO - Christmas Burgoyne Surrounded - started in 2015, I saw it in one of The Bins and thought I should give it a go. Three blocks are pieced; the original plan was for 25 blocks which would yield a queen-sized quilt, so we’ll see.

Twelve quilts on the list, but I’m only gunning to finish six. I want to make more, but life happens. While there is no specific order to when these will be done, I plan to finish the WIPs first, and alternate between new projects and UFOs—3 of each would be a nice mix and help clean out some space in The Bins and the fabric room. There’s a lot of digitizing to learn and test, and other things, like garments, will be added to the mix. The garments will be for me, the Hubs, the puptarts, and maybe a baby or two.

And another part of the plan of attack is to completely cut out all new projects. I'm planning a cutting day for my quilting buddies, and my Accuquilt die cutter will get a workout.

There are many, many more quilts and other things to make. I spend a lot of time drooling over other quilts that also provide inspiration. The thought pops in my head from time to time that I should eschew social media and use that time to be in the studio. Yeah, like that’s going to happen.

More training—I’m scheduled to take some more Embrilliance classes in April and I’m looking forward to them. Hopefully, my sister will retire this year and relocate to our area, but in the meantime I may be headed her way for some classes at a LQS near her.

More organizing--I bought so much stuff in the past two years that I don't believe I can shoehorn in another thing in any room. Therefore, I must make some room. I hope that most of it will be sewn up, but I need to take a hard look at some patterns and books that no longer scream, "Make me!" I did a big pattern and book de-stash about 10 years ago, so maybe that will happen again. With that being said...

I will try my best to not purchase fabric, notions, patterns, books, etc., etc., unless I need them to complete a project. I was successful doing this several years ago, and I think it needs to happen again. I have said no to so many sales in the last month other than the napkin fabrics, and that makes me happy.

While we were hoping to travel more, we have made the realization that we really love being home and sleeping in our bed. We’ve made no plans beyond April, but we’ll start shaping that up before long. We have a timeshare and need to use our allotted points, but we may bank them for a trip planned for Orlando in April 2027 with our stepdaughter and grands. Who knows? And when it comes to quilt shows, I was supposed to go to QuiltCon next month with Katrina and Cindy, but Katrina’s oldest daughter is having her first baby on opening day of the show. It’s been almost 10 years since the last time I went to a large quilt show (2016 in Houston) and I haven’t felt the need to go; I don’t know if that’s my age or maybe not wanting to travel—but time will tell.

I am also hopeful for more time with my quilting buddies, close friends, and as much family that are willing to spend time with me. Every moment is precious and I realize there’s only so much time.

At some point I'll start filling you in on other projects happening here--there's more about the house, including garage organization, master closet updo, and gardening--and I'll share it when it happens. But you know with me, quilting is always #1.

Go make!
