This week, and another finished quilt!
What we’re doing during our sometimes-annual Snowmaggedon week.
Snowmaggedon is being re-nicknamed to Snowzilla. Or Sleetzilla. The snow came and came and finally stopped Sunday, and sleet was off and on all day Saturday and I think that night. But we’re still warm and toasty inside, and if we wanted to go anywhere, we couldn’t. I’m ok with it. The windchill has us in the negative digits this weekend and Monday; no thawing will happen until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest, but it will take awhile for this stuff to go away.
The photo above is from Saturday morning. Sunday afternoon, the sun came out and lots of families were sledding down our hill. It's fun to watch and the puptarts went wild!
I finished great-grandson's baby quilt today...all it needs is the label:
I signed up for Sookie Sews’ Serger Escape last month, and finally started the course Saturday—because I couldn’t find the next planned project I wanted to tackle. This course is for those who haven’t yet taken their serger out of the box because of fear of the unknown. That’s not me, but I had the hope of learning a bit more about my new serger to get more comfortable with it.
There are six lessons in the course, and they are definitely geared to a brand-new-serger-owner. I’ve had a serger and used it for almost 20 years, so I know about tension, differential, etc. But I wish this class had been available when I got that first serger. Sookie (Sue O’Very) is great at explaining and reviewing basic instructions for setting up the serger (including threading which is the number one thing most new owners fear), and showing how to get a balanced stitch.
I completed the first three lessons that day, and I actually learned some things which surprised me, and that’s good. The next three lessons are for creating simple projects: a set of coasters, fabric baskets and a thread catcher. I hope to complete those lessons this week.
Sookie has closed the current Serger Escape session, but she will be offering it again in March. Here’s a link to her site where you can sign up for notifications the next time it goes live.
We finally took down the Christmas decorations today. I didn’t feel the need to hurry that up after Christmas because the tree is so pretty. But it was time. Now we have to schlep them up to the attic.
Moving into the fabric/cutting room, I’m going through The Bins to find not one, but two projects that are on this year’s list. Neither project is where my inventory list says it should be, and I’m a little frustrated by it.
And we had sad news last night; one of Hubs' younger brothers passed away Saturday night. We will be heading back to Hubs' hometown once we know about the arrangements.
I hope you have a great week and have good things planned. Go make!
