2015 Year End Wrap Up, and Learning to Let Go

I learned a lot of lessons this year. One lesson rears its head each year and repeatedly tells me that there is only so much I can do. This year, I fell short of my self-imposed goal to complete more quilts than I did last year, which was 5. I wanted to complete at least 6.

Finally Finished: The secret project!

Steph got a tattoo for her 50th birthday...and a quilt for her 55th.

You ever have an idea for a quilt that you can't get out of your mind? This was one of those quilts. FAIR WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD!

...My name is Shari, and I am a quilter who blogs. It has been just under 4 months since my last post.

I've been out in the weeds...I had a whole lot of "meh" feelings about quilting this much so that I squandered the entire summer and did not work on the secret project until the end of July. I hosted a sew day with the Girlfriends and Cindy suggested that the Girlfriends needed to help me with the project. Normally I would say "No!", but I caved. I am trying to be more receptive to offers of kindness.

And thanks to the Girlfriends, the secret project is finished and gifted. More on that in my next post.

The biggest reason for my absence from the blog and quilting is the Hubster--he found out the day after my last post that he was building the Great Wall to China in both of his kidneys, and he has since had 8 surgeries. He's much better, but there's more to come and we'll learn more about that this coming week.

Other than the secret project, no quilting has taken place, but the quilting mojo is slowly coming back.

Here's a few shots from our family Christmas:
New Christmas tree, old ornament

Garland made by my co-worker, Patti

Hubster chilling before the presents are opened

Sydney and Jack enjoying the conversation

Emma, David and Britta wolfing down the breakfast goodies; those are
haystacks cooling on the parchment paper. Cinnamon rolls,
sausage rolls, cheese rolls and spicy egg casserole for breakfast.

Another shot of the breakfast goodies and haystacks

Syd modeling her new Ray-Bans

Emma's "E" is for "Elephant" bag

Ross' new bluetooth thermometer

Emma's new pajamas that I finished ON TIME!

Steph and Holly admiring the photo collage the kids and Phillip and I gave them

This photo was taken by my stepdaughter;
these are the quilts I made for our granddaughters

The dinner table; it was a bit crowded this year (and I love that)

Desserts on the buffet

I'm off from work for a few days and I hope to get Pinetree Village quilted over the next week.

Go quilt!

And...we're back.

It's been a crazy busy summer during my bloggy break. I managed to overextend myself (my normal) and did way too much. Did I quilt? A little bit.

June 2015 Goals: Not so much

SUMMERTIME! Which usually means it's already hot around here, but it's been blissfully cooler than normal. And very wet!

Is there anything more exciting than pulling fabric for a new quilt?
I think not.

Go quilt!

A pillow for Syd - Finally Finished!

Katrina and LeiLani were here last Saturday to quilt. We were each doing our own thing...mine was getting up the courage to install an invisible zipper into a pillow cover.

April 2015 Goals

Ah, April...the showers have started and hopefully we'll have a pretty, yet cooler day this Easter Sunday. The family will gather for brunch and dyeing eggs.

March 2015 Progress Report, ALYoF and 350 Blocks Project

March was kind of wicked weather-wise...but I certainly got a lot accomplished!

...although it doesn't look like it from that collage photo.

Finally Finished - Chinese Nachos!

It's another snow and ice day here in central Arkansas--which means it's a SEW DAY! I told the Hubster after my hour-and-a-half drive home (6 miles--normally takes me 15 minutes) that if our office was closed today I would go through paperwork, but the call of the studio changed that! So while I have some decent daylight downstairs, I have for your viewing pleasure...

Chinese Nachos! Another UFO has been completed and is ready for gifting.

January is never one of my best months. After the thrill and fun of the holidays I needed a break, but didn't like the funk that came over me once January settled in. We received some bleak news about Will and his future, the workload was insane and...I needed to find a way to make it better. I realized late in the month that this would be my second year to miss the Girl Gang retreat which took place the first week of February...another year where I did not have an entire week of quilting without the distractions of home, work and other things. It got me thinking...

March 2015 Goals - ALYoF, 350 Blocks Project and other stuff!

I don't expect to make nearly as much progress in March as I did in February, but here's what I'd like to accomplish:

Louisa's Little Lone Star - Finally Finished!

My girlfriend Jean is a new grandmother. I've known James, her son, since he was 5 years old. When she told me that James and his wife were expecting, I knew I had to make a quilt.

2015 - The Game Plan: UFOs

In my welcome to 2015 last month I only talked about what I had planned for January, and last week I mentioned my goals for February. Here's what I'm thinking of for the rest of the year.

350 Blocks Project

Sometimes, when I've been drilling through all the other lovely blogs, I see something that captures my attention and I think, "That sounds like FUN!"

A passing

We gathered with the Hubster's family in Atlanta yesterday to say goodbye to his father.
